Bubble & Flute Review

In a word… summer.

In a few sentences…Every time I drink a glass of the Taittinger Brut Réserve a Jack Johnson tune just starts playing in my head. There’s something about the laid-back simplicity of acoustic music that matches the pure, clean, fresh style of Taittinger and just gives off that chilled-out upbeat beach vibe.

Moment or mood… chilled-out, happy, relaxed summer beach vibes with Jack Johnson playing in the background.

Where to buy it… Available in all good wine retailers. Expect to pay about $75.

Wine Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer… ‘Prestige is a blend designed for on-premise venues. Announcing its extended maturity in a medium straw hue and bitter almond complexity, this is a style led by the apple, pear and grapefruit of chardonnay, beginning to become gently toasty. Chardonnay carries a fine and vibrant acid line, which melds with understated dosage on a dry finish accented by fine chalk mineral texture. It’s a clean, fresh and appealing apéritif.’ 91 Points

Wine Enthusiast, Roger Voss… ‘One of the most familiar brands of Champagne, this is a soft, finely blended wine. With its fresh fruits, touch of toast and a crisp aftertaste, it is dominated by Chardonnay, in the Taittinger style. A steely edge creeps in at the end, leaving a wine that is bright and ready to drink.’ 89 Points

Official Tasting Notes from Taittinger

Eye…The brilliant body is golden yellow in colour. The bubbles are
fine, while the foam is discreet yet lingering.

Nose…The nose, very open and expressive, delivers aromas of fruit and brioche. It also gives off the fragrance of peach, white flowers (hawthorn, acacia) and vanilla pod.

Palate… The entry onto the palate is lively, fresh and in total harmony. This is a delicate wine with flavours of fresh fruit and honey.

Food pairings… Not the official match from the house but I would pair this with fresh seafood like prawns, oysters, sashimi, fish that is grilled on the BBQ or event fish and chips. The champagne is delicate enough for the fresh seafood and has the freshness and minerality to cut through the fat.
